Once upon a time in the late 90s to early 2000s, I had a serious fascination with high neck or turtle neck tops…
So much so that I would endure the excruciating tropical heat just for a taste of having an extra piece of material around my neck. Looking back I wonder why I hadn’t contracted heat stroke.
That fascination however disappeared completely from mid-2000s as my liking for this style took a 180 degrees turn. Turtle necks, as I’ve known them suddenly seemed more appropriate for the mature. I was at an age where baring a little more skin was preferable to being covered up. I donated all of my turtle neck tops and did not miss them a single bit.
It could be an age thing, or that the fashion cycle has repeated itself again. At the end of last year, I found covered necks extremely appealing again. I went out of my way to look for one that’s within my budget and fulfils my aesthetic craving but to no avail. Until I saw this particular one at Uniqlo. It’s made of fleece (yes you heard me right) and I debated internally whether I would want to wear PJs out of the house. Apparently I do.
Believe it or not, I really enjoyed wearing my fleece top last weekend. The material was so incredibly soft and inviting, definitely something that I would want to lounge in all day. The only complaint that I have would be the material scrunched up a bit too much, hence making a scruffy look even scruffier than necessary. I’ll try pairing it with high waisted skirt next time and see what happens. Perhaps that would keep the excess material at bay.
