What are your thoughts on maxi dresses?

Happy Thursday everyone! How has your week been so far? I’m so glad that I’m having some down time today to chill and take things slowly because my body is screaming for me to slow down!

As a continuation to the Cape Town (CT) series that I started since January (which will be ending in a few weeks sadly), I’m taking you to the Company’s Garden, a heritage site/park started by the Dutch East India company back in the 1650s to grow fresh produce for trade. It was blazing hot that day so as usual I was busy seeking refuge in any shade that I could find as we made our way round the garden. I stopped in my tracks when I saw a bold and rather big African mama dancing to live music by a bunch of African laydeez who were also cheering her on by the sidelines. She did the boogie; swayed her hips and was absolutely basking in the limelight. How refreshing it was to witness body confidence when the modern society keeps telling you how fat or unattractive you are each day!

Back in the 80s-90s, bamboo furniture was huge in Asia for its durability and easy maintenance and therefore this bamboo patch had naturally triggered memories of my own childhood being a kid of that era.  This maxi dress from Desray is probably one of my favourite purchases in CT other than the bracelet (also featured here and here) that I paired with this dress. I was instantly smitten when I laid eyes on it and I love it for so many reason- the paisley pattern (also see here), interesting combination of colours, length, pockets, style and comfort. I’m not sure about you but I am BIG on pockets! They are not only handy when I have random objects in my hands but also provide a nice comforting shelter when I’m bored or when I’m trying to look cool (see above AND below). This dress is also perfect for those who prefer to roam around ‘free’ because of the extra elasticated layer at the chest section.

Balancing on these bamboo stalks in the sticky heat was hard work so goofing around was warranted! I also tried to relieve my ballet days but clearly they were over.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend and see you next time!

xx
