The Brief

I love that this look is rather cinched-in at the waist but still very easy and relaxed, which was exactly how I felt at that time.

Stellenbosch is known for its wine farms and old Dutch buildings and it’s considered to be a must visit while in Cape Town.

We were very fortunate to find ourselves at Spier a couple of days after Christmas for an extended celebration, enjoying good food and wine whilst soaking in the warmth of summer. It felt so good to slow down and enjoy face-to-face interaction with people that matter to us. We’re extremely fortunate to have a couple of photographers in the family as we ended up taking our family portrait there as well! Ah, so good.

STYLE NOTES ||SILHOUETTE|| The brief for the portrait was to wear something along the lines of grey, blue, white or mint. Initially I planned to wear a printed dress but scrapped that in the last minute as I was told that print would draw too much unnecessary attention to myself (major tip alert). As the family portrait would be a casual affair, I decided to wear my much-loved off-white Legion jeans and my silver (yes I cheated) cami instead. I was also careful to choose a thin top because I dislike any visible bulk around the waist. I love that this look is rather cinched-in at the waist but still very easy and relaxed, which was exactly how I felt at that time.

||FOOTWEAR|| I have a choice between brown and black footwear and black trumps brown in the world of colour pairing in this instance.

||JEWELLERY|| My barely-there WWAKE lineage necklace was more than sufficient to complete the look. Keeping things nice and simple here.

SIDE NOTES The one thing that I’m quite proud about both Mr M and I as a couple last year is that we picked up our socialising game considerably. For a long time, we were just cruising in our comfort zone whilst becoming a little stagnant in the way of relationship building but something must have clicked over since we moved into our new apartment. I’m quite fond of the idea of being a hostess so after a few tries, we decided that we kinda like it! We’ve learnt that hosting doesn’t necessarily need to be complicated. It could be as simple as inviting a couple of people over for a simple weekday meal and chat. The satisfaction we got absolutely overrode the mess and clean-ups that ensued. Trust us. Try it for yourself!
