Back in the 90s, my mom would always wear a brooch to secure her silk scarf and that was the extent of what brooches were used for. They were seen as a functional piece rather than an object of creativity. Admittedly I haven’t paid much attention to those unassuming little things until I encountered the beautifully handcrafted ‘seated lady’ brooch by Waif recently. Suddenly a world of possibilities flashed before my eyes as I realised that there’s so much more that we could do with the very much under-appreciated brooch. A well-made brooch would dress up the plainest tops, jackets, bags and even notebooks! Unlike iron-on patches, they are reusable and easily transferable which no doubt add to their versatility.
Now have I convinced you yet?
