Refocus

I miss those days, I really do. Those simple days where a good book was able to keep me occupied for hours on end and provide a wonderful sense of satisfaction that lasted a long, long time.

Gone were the days where long attentions spans were natural and not something that needed to be commended or celebrated.

I miss those days, I really do. Those simple days where a good book was able to keep me occupied for hours on end and provide a wonderful sense of satisfaction that lasted a long, long time.

Nowadays I find myself struggling to even read a page of something without getting distracted. Things are at such a dire state and I’m not proud of who I’ve become. I constantly succumbed to that need to do more and more just because worldly values endorse such a behaviour. There were so many times that I found myself doing 3 things at a time. I was hoping to be that expert multi-tasker but more often than not my efforts ended up yielding subpar results.

I feel a deep sense of urgency in putting my foot down, once and for all. And as pathetic as it sounds, learning to focus is very difficult in this ever connected world. There are so many things to see, to do, and to learn; so many opportunities to grasp; so many dreams to fulfil. These yearnings produce a whole new dimension to tackle.

With any change comes actions and here are 3 that I thought we could all road-test together (if you’re also in a similar situation):
#1. REMOVE temptations
Read: Put phone and laptop away, develop self-control.

#2. BE contented
Read: Not to be confused with complacency but be happy with the one thing that we’re doing at any given time, and do it well.

#3. APPRECIATE the reality that we’re in
Read: While it is important to overcome barriers and strive for greater heights, appreciating our own limitations can also be very humbling.

Let’s hold each other accountable, shall we?

I will try and report back. Meanwhile, let me know if you have any more suggestions but promise me to go gentle 🙂
