Natural Split

There’s just something about this palette that temporarily helps me to disregard all the messiness and stress in life.

This year especially, I found myself trying to be more experimental and creative (within a certain budget restriction) with my outfits. My personal style is still very much casual and weekend-inspired but I’ve also been playing with texture, colours and looks that I wouldn’t have considered before. I’m not entirely sure what it was that prompted me to be more open-minded. It could just be that I felt a lot more settled down after the wedding and that I’m now ready for a bit of fun and games.

I purchased the linen skirt above alongside these culottes because I wanted to have a bigger collection of “bottoms” to choose from. As much as I like the split at the front, its construction has proved to be a little tricky for someone who take big strides like me. The seam that holds the split together just wasn’t strong enough and the split ended up expanding upwards, leaving me in a sllliiggghhttly vulnerable position. I know this problem could be easily resolved but I did feel a little bummed out especially because the skirt’s brand new and those culottes didn’t work out the way I expected them to (refer to this post).

Putting aside all frustration, I do like the colour and this earthy/natural pairing reminded me of those demure, not to mention cutesy Japanese women in Japanese fashion magazines who only wear natural fabrics. There’s just something about this palette that temporarily helps me to disregard all the messiness and stress in life.

AND

Guess what, earth tones are trendy now as well. #winning

What do you think of earth tones? I know that I go into phases with them. Do you wear them even when they’re not technically “stylish”?
