Layering is my favourite game in the colder seasons. Whilst I do enjoy the simplicity of summer dressing, winter truly gets my brain juices going with endless pairing opportunities. It also helps that I’m super into knitting at the moment (see scarf above and here, here and here for a few examples) and I’m constantly dreaming about making all the delicious cosy things using soft, melt-in-your-hand yarns. What about re-wearing that good quality knitted piece that you paid so much for over and over and over again? That gets me smiling.

I’m playing with lengths and textures here and I love how the rich burgundy scarf with specks of blue instantly jazzed up the simple outfit. I purchased this super precious Brooklyn Tweed yarn from Purl Soho in NYC and made the scarf using this free pattern. The yarn is ultra lofty and fragile so it did take a little practice to get the tension right. I had to go up a number of needle sizes because of the very dense stitch and as a result of that, the sides of the scarf kept rolling inwards. That could be easily remedied with a little bit of steaming and stretching so no biggie there. The project flew off the needles and within a couple of weeks I had a scarf to play with which was very satisfying. I’m planning to purchase either more Brooklyn Tweed or Quince and Co yarns to make myself a nice sweater or cardigan so I’m all kinds of excited! For now Mr M and I need to concentrate on finding a property for our next move and once we get that out of the way, I’m going to crack my knuckles and churn out a few projects.

Have a wonderful day and if you’re based in the Southern Hemisphere, keep warm!
