Last Weekend Edit: I love Chinese New Year!

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR FOLKS! In case you’re unfamiliar with CNY, each lunar year is associated with 1 of 12 zodiac animals and this is the year of the snake. Well, the first day of new year fell on the 10th of Feb this year (Sunday) and to me  that was absolutely perfect because most people were rather relaxed and happier on weekends. I have to say,  CNY is prolly one of my favourite festive seasons of the year even though I’m currently residing in a ‘western’ country; living a fairly ‘western’ lifestyle. My friends and I definitely tried our best to make this new year as close as possible to how we would have celebrated back home by observing certain traditions that we grew up with. A strong dose of Chinese pride here I’d say!

So what exactly did we do in the first of new year? We gathered, cooked, ate, laughed, listened to noisy/annoying CNY songs, ate somemore, asked for angbao (ie red packets filled with $) from married friends, and… have I mentioned eating yet?

Despite the on-going slew of activies, Mr M and I managed to find ourselves in Chinatown to soak in the festivities and to capture some photos. Chinese people believe that red symbolises good fortune so I chose to wear this loud T-shirt dress with splatters of red to attract abundant blessings! I adore the combination of colours because they look so fresh and inviting. The lovely soft material was a pleasant suprise too when I received it  as I wasn’t expecting such wonderful quality. The dress was made in a loose fit so I just cinced the waist in with my red suede belt to give it a more fitted silhouette.

These purple cap-toe flats from Pedro are a personal favourite of mine because they are so comfy and add a nice pop of colour to any outfit. Pedro originated from Singapore but they have a store in Melbourne so check it out when you’re there because they are pretty cool! As you could tell, I was in the mood to play with colours yesterday because I was as colourful as can be!
