Knitting is stereotypically associated with housewives and grannies so stumbling upon an expert male hipster knitter and weaver is utterly refreshing.
I can’t remember the sequence of events that led to the discovery of Jerome Sevilla of gridjunky but I gotta say that my fascination with him did increase after listening to him on the Woolful podcast. Jerome is known for using recycled yarn that he salvaged from pre-loved sweaters and knitted items and magically turns them into brand new accessories, mostly beanies and scarves. His designs are very much influenced by geometry and his workmanship is immaculate. Jerome has a penchant for finer yarns and that has rubbed off on me a little. As a newbie in the world of yarn and knitting, I’m drawn to chunkier yarn that would knit up quickly. However seeing a pair of strong male hands with bulging veins handling delicate fibres in such an expert manner is pretty inspiring, to say the least.
I bought some 4-ply wool recently and have shortlisted a number of patterns that I would like to follow. If all turns out well I might do a little feature here. We’ll see.
