When you read about interviews with amazingly stylish people, one of the common responses would be “I don’t follow fashion trends.”

For a little while I didn’t think that I was following trends as well (not that I could ever put myself in the same category of style as those people) because I seldom felt a need to jump on the bandwagon. Sure I was interested in the Mansur Graviel bucket bags (even wrote about it here), or those fringe denim jeans that are so now but I hadn’t took any drastic actions to obtain them. The closest I had ever gotten to feeling trendy was my near purchase of Stuart Weitzman’s Highland Boots last year but the purchase unfortunately fell through due to another priority.

If you look closely at the above outfit, you would instantly realise that I was only indulging myself on this “I’m not a trend follower” talk. That bandana and that PJ-inspired shirt? Who was I kidding? As much as I would like to dissociate myself with what everyone else is wearing or doing, I’m indeed one of them. The only difference is that I’m not an early-adopter and more often than not would sit back and wait until the right moment comes along. I’m in no hurry to dish out the money and I want to make sure that I’m in love before committing myself. I find less and less pleasure in filling up my wardrobe to the brim and more and more pleasure in appreciating and re-styling what I have. It would be a true #win if I’m still rocking these items 5 years from now. Only time will tell but to be fair, those black nudies are at least 6 years old ;).

So, are you an early adopter or a conservative like me?
