As I was going through various blog posts on 2016 NY resolutions, there was a lot of mention on reading and books. I do belong to that camp of people who vowed to read more this year as there is an increased craving for beautifully structured phrases and contents that were reliable and well thought out. Before the invention of visually-heavy and highly addictive social media, I was that girl who frequented bookstores selecting bestsellers and getting lost in the textured pages.

I’d like to revive that side of me. That simple side with a thirst for knowledge and a desire to retreat to a nook for a great cause, uninterrupted and unashamed.

Hang on, I’m allowed to talk about resolutions right since we’re still in January? I’m happy to report that I did in fact finished a book on the first day on 2016! Ok, that is not entirely accurate as I started reading Girl on the Train months before but finally finished it on that day. I can’t remember the last time I completed a book that isn’t university affiliated. How appalling is that? Back to Girl on the Train, if you’re also trying to ease back into reading again, I would highly recommend it as the plot is relatively gripping and the story flows at a good pace. The only reason that it took me so long to wrap up this book was because I wasn’t committed enough. Yes I wanted to read badly but I also allowed myself to get distracted by all the other things that I wanted to do. I’m still working on my priorities!

I felt truly energised after hitting the last page which led me to download Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng very soon after. Kindle 1-click is seriously the best (and very dangerous to the pocket as well). I’m half way through it now and I love it. The book is so beautifully written and Celeste totally did justice to the English language. I found myself imagining the different scenes while devouring the flowery words. So delightful!

I’ve also purchased Live Love Lead by Brian Houston after hearing so many compliments about it. Everyone in church is so proud of the book and the goodness that comes with it. I’m planning to start focusing on it as soon as I approach the end of Everything I Never Told You. I’m looking forward to strengthen my faith journey and glean a fresh sense of perspective this year. I got the book in hard copy because Mr M would like to read it as well. There’s something so special about having the same belief and focus in life as a husband and wife team.

All the Light We Cannot See, another crazy popular book is next. Ah, I feel like a kid in a candy store.

To top it all off, I was wearing my beloved denim shirt dress from Uniqlo in complete nerd mode. I would reach for this shirt dress whenever I wanted something easy and that day was one of those days.

What are some of the books that you’re currently enjoying? What do you enjoy about them? Recommendations are very very welcome.

Happy reading!
