Kirkjufell, the most photographed mountain in Iceland

After having a nice breakfast, we left Magical Horses and headed towards Varmahlid to do some Icelandic horse riding in the nature. What can I say about Icelandic horses? They are one of the oldest breeds in the world and their long mane seriously had me at hello. Our guides were friendly and professional and being an absolute beginner with minimal experience, I was relaxed enough to enjoy the ride. The horse that I chose was a little naughty and rebellious but I made it to the end point unscathed and that was all that mattered. It’s so important to pile on the layers and wear your gloves and beanie because the chill could get really uncomfortable. You could take your camera with you but I would suggest a compact one for ease of handling.

The rest of the day was filled with a leisurely long drive to Kirkjufell (translates as Church Mountain), where we would be spending our night in a little cottage at the foot of the mountain. We had done most of the exciting things for our road trip before returning to Reykjavik the next day so it felt a little anti-climatic in that regard. Reykjavik was awesome though but I’ll save that for the next post. Meanwhile, hope you enjoy the photos and please feel free to leave a comment if you have any questions that you would like to ask about our trip.
